Synopsis

Sarah Dearly is on the blind date from hell.  She wakes up whilst being buried in a shallow grave to find that she has been bitten by her date, who happens to be a vampire.  This is bad news because the blind date hadn’t been going well even before he bit her.  Worse is yet to come, her date is promptly slain by a group of men (who turn out to be vampire hunters) she thought were going to help her escape from the vampire but they then try to kill her too!  Chased over the city by the hunters she runs straight into the arms of Thierry, master vampire of Toronto, who helps her escape from them.

Thierry is a sexy handsome brooding vampire, six hundred years old and suicidal (hey, nobody’s perfect) but he reluctantly agrees to help her adjust to her new life as a vampire in return for her helping him end his existence.

Fired from her job for trying to suck her boss’s bloody finger, hunted by vampire slayers and with an unerring knack of finding trouble wherever she goes, Sarah needs all the help she can get!

The Review

This book is a solid comedy vampire romance.  It is a light weight and fast paced novel and being a quick read I managed to finish this book in just one day.  The story is written in first person from the perspective of Sarah, who is a self confessed bubblehead.

The characters are a little one dimensional and under developed.  We never really know why Thierry is suicidal apart from a vague ‘tied of his existence’, and Sarah herself is very shallow and whilst amusing she is also somewhat annoying.

That said I still really enjoyed this book.  It is light-hearted vampire chick lit and sometimes that is just what you want to read.

Editor’s Choice

Soulless by Gail Carriger

I LOVED this book! It takes the best parts of the urban fantasy, romance, mystery and alternative history genres adds a dash of steampunk, wraps it up in a coating of Victorian sensibility and turns it into something more than the sum of its parts. Fabulous! Read the review.
