Bloodsucking Fiends

Christopher Moore

Published 1995      317 pages

Synopsis

Jody Stroud has bad luck with men but when she is attacked by a vampire in a San Francisco allay her luck would appear to have reached a new low.  She wakes up dead the next night to find herself stuffed under a dumpster and no idea of how to go about being a vampire.  She needs to find help fast, so she hooks up with a young mortal man, Tommy.   For 19 year old Tommy it is love at first sight but is he ready for eternity?

Review

This is one of my favourite books.  Although the book has the sub-title “A Love Story” tagged on to it, I don’t particularly think of this as a romance novel.  Blood Sucking Fiends has more scope to it than that.  It is a humorous story, filled with original characters that are vividly weird yet realistic too.  I particularly liked Tommy’s work mates, who are known as ‘the Animals’.  A great read!  I’d rate it four and a half out of five.

Editor’s Choice

Soulless by Gail Carriger

I LOVED this book! It takes the best parts of the urban fantasy, romance, mystery and alternative history genres adds a dash of steampunk, wraps it up in a coating of Victorian sensibility and turns it into something more than the sum of its parts. Fabulous! Read the review.
